Balaalo in the Acholi Land, their eviction, and possible implications!
Currently, there is a serious issue going on involving people known as balaalo and their reportedly invasion of the Acholi land. What is your say?
Some people, for example, Andrew Mwenda and colleagues, say the balaalo should not be evicted from northern Uganda, citing Uganda’s constitution that allows Ugandans to stay anywhere in Uganda. However, others, for example, Honorable #OdongaOtto (watch his video here: https://cultureunity.com/newsfeed/p/1213/), insist that the Balaalo are not like any typical Ugandans. He says most of them are actually not Ugandans, but Rwandese wandering around.
Importantly, he seems to suggest buying and using land is okay, but permanent ownership and fencing off of customary land is really not feasible. Importantly, the President of Uganda has offered eviction notices, completely deciding that the Balaalo should be evicted from those lands.
